Fantastic. Isn't USUM just SM but better? Anyone have a changelog on hand? Regional differences? Probably not gonna start it anytime soon, but I'd like it for later.

USUM has a stupid plotline about the sun being an evil robot. It also has a shitload of legendaries and random mons from the previous games, a short extra quest where you fight the old Team Admins, a couple extra side quests and some new Z Moves.
SuMo story is about Lillie's family.
Version differences are just pokémon availability iirc

USUM has more pokemon so you can neglect the new additions even more. It also has a shitload more interruptions so I’d say it’s the definitive gen 7 experience.

I’d say go for ultra if you want a fresh start. The story has a different conclusion to the main game which isn’t as good, but for a second run it isn’t bad if you can stomach going through the dialogue again. There’s some minor changes in the game like some of the totems being different and some good move tutor lists from mantine surf during the actual game to spice things up a bit compared to vanilla sun and moon. There’s also some more small side events scattered around. It’s mostly small things that’ll give you some info on the region and an item or a rare encounter, but there are some meatier ones like the haunted trainer school. If you’re into worldbuilding it’s nice, but if not, then it’s pretty minor.

The first half of the game is near identical, the second half changes every scene involving Lillie's family and Ultra Space. The post-game is also almost completely different.
