giganiga snorlax looks much worse than Torterra. Torterra just got cucked by starter size restrictions. I'm certain maxing won't make it to the DP remakes, elsewise they wouldn't have blown their load on Snorlax already.

Literally any new stage or form added to a pokemon does this. Babies, crossgen evos, megas, variants, gigantamax, you name it.
At best, the new stage or form improves the pokemon, and at worst, only makes the original pokemon's design or concept stronger. Having multiple stages or forms gives more room to explore and contextualize a pokemon's design or concepts. Adding something new doesn't take away from what already existed.
