relicanth is a top tier design
>based on coelacanth, the living fossil fish, and fits the bill of fossil-like (but not fossil) in the pokemon universe as well

>red dot representing where treasure is buried and also looks like an eye but isnt
>real face on the front looks like an old man with the tusk like protrusions making it look more prehistoric but also looking like oldman saggy cheeks/jowls, as confirmed very intentional by its japanese name
>shiny form is a treasure map of the ocean
and its all very subtle. they couldve followed the same ideas and made it blantly obvious and ugly but instead its just a cool inspired fish
