Could be, I'm the anon that did the really rough google translation of the 1st chapter of one of the Colosseum manga earlier this week. Twice I came across stuff that mentioned child/children when it seemed like they had to be referring to the pokemon, once specifically talking about espeon and umbreon, "those children are a perfect match" or something along those lines was the direct translation, and the other was more vague but had a kanji that was too blurry in the scan I had to make out so had to fudge that line. Maybe in Japan it's common for trainers to refer to their pokemon as kids/babies/children? Only thing I can think of.
