Point is the quality of the game and its story doesn't mean anything since the anime can do whatever it wants and doesn't have to be 1:1 with the games it's based on.

But hopping from region to region randomly destroys any sense of pacing or progression.

Even kids are going to get bored of that pretty quick. The whole point of the anime was the gym challenges/leagues and character arcs for Ash's friends and of course the Pokemon themselves.

They said this new series is meant to be enjoyed by "all ages", but it has nothing for either the younger or older demographics. Kids will get bored of the lack of progression, and older fans will be turned off by the lack of familiar characters.

Maybe. Go caught a lot of Pokemon in the last episode as part of his job as an assistant in the laboratory. The next episode will be about him and Ash entering a Battle Frontier, which means that he'll take a liking for battling and probably will do more than just catch Pokemon.
