You /can/ call dolphins whales, as they're in the Odontoceti (toothed whale) pavorder, but then you couldn't say "X isn't a dolphin, it's a whale", because dolphins ARE whales in this case. And even if dolphins aren't whales, orcas are still dolphins, since they're in the Delphinidae family.
