Back before the games came out when they were teasing the UBs and shit there was his theory going around that certain characters were connected to certain UBs because of how similar they looked (Lillie-Nihilego, Lusamine=Pheromosa, Guzma= the electric one etc). And then when the games came out there was no trace of any connection aside from Lillie being dressed like that by Lusamine, despite how glaring the similarities were. Well, guess which UB looks most like Gladdie? It's Necrozma, the freaking cover legend of the updated games.
So my dumbass theory was that he was supposed to be the main NPC originally, probably even with some plot that mirrored Necrozma, where he's suffering because he's being denied the "light" which in this case would be basic human kindness. Hence mooks and motel ladies shitting on him to a baffling degree. But just like how Necrozma, after all that talk about how we should totally help even a suffering monster like it, just ends up in a crater somewhere after you beat it up and no one cares about it once the threats passed, Gladdie gets his story cut off and there's no resolution to him being treated like shit. Probably some focus group decided waifu would sell better. Did N not move enough merch or something?
