Sword and Shield have different gyms? I don't really know much about this generation, are the games more different than they were in previous generations?

Not really at all. But there are two different gyms per game, I think. Zacian is definitely the better legendary, but shield has some good exclusives.

There's "version exclusive gyms", but literally the only difference are the type the trainers use, the gym leader and slight aesthetic changes. It's basically the exact same either version and the only reason to pick one or the other is "muh dick"

doesnt mean its not the afterthought version just because ability and typing makes the sword legendary better for a specific thing
all shield exclusives fit the environment more, and the shield gym leaders even have more backstory than the sword ones
i bought sword btw and watched a shield playthrough and saw all the minor differences. shield seems so much more right
