Anyone else find the campaign of SwSh more enjoyable than SM?
I still find SwSh to be pretty fucking bad when looking at their entire context, but it felt somewhat liberating to be able to do what I wanted when I wanted, at least way more than SM. The biggest issue for me was that there was so little to do.

I get what you mean. In SM the cutscenes were longer and in general you had to be taken away from your path to solve other people's shitty stories at times. Meanwhile in SwSh the cutscenes are alot more brief and in general there are less diversions. It felt alot less autistic.

I agree OP. Routes felt a bit more engaging, plus the Wild Area allowed you to fuck off from the cutscenes and go dick around catching and battling and doing minigames and shit. On top of that, the pacing felt a bit less sluggish, from region to region, so I did end up enjoying it more than gen 7's.

Haven’t been in the wild area very much, what mini games are you talking about? You mean camping? Because you can do that in other routes too, although you can’t visit other people’s camps outside of the Wild Area (but this doesn’t matter much since nobody fucking camps there from what i have seen)

Let me tell you something. SWSH is waay shorter, SWSH stops you and handholds you for basically everything. Everytime you go out of a gym somebody is coming for you, that doesn’t happen even in Alola.

But Alola has more plot weight. So the story stops you more time than SWSH. Less times but more time. The difference is that SWSH stops you to tell you the same filler thing everytime while SM bothers a bit to tell you a story and different details everytime it stops you.

So if you don’t mind about story you’ll clearly prefer SWSH’s way to stop you.

But that’s a pretty basic thought if you ask me, SWSH is way worse than SM in everything... Even if they stops you less time.

At least totem Pokémon battles were challenging (inb4 one shot) and exploring different worlds through dimensional space was fun

SM = Family drama that engulfs the entire region, and ends with Lillie taking her mother to Kanto to get the help she needs.

USUM = $40 DLC

SWSH = The story of two rivals competing in a challenge to be the best, with said "rival" actually being trash. There's some other stupid shit happening in the background to.

I don't know man, it sounds like your confusing the game play improvements for the story. SM's story was great, it at least had a direction. Also, Liberating? Are you sure you were playing sword and shield?

It’s bland. SM at least tried something and everytime they stops you they tell you something different, and probably important or at least related to a character/the plot. SWSH sucks in that.

i guess i understand why someone would think less cutscenes = more fun
but the reason SwSh has less cutscenes is because it has less everything. it's much shorter, there's next to no plot, there's few side quests and none of them are developed, the physical area is much smaller, there's less to do, there's way fewer side paths and optional areas, there's next to no reward for exploring.
but you're right. sword and shield do have less cutscenes, and that's a plus in a video game.
