risk management is a valuable skill to have with this game, you should play as if you'll always get a min roll.
if there's a safer path to victory you should take that instead and only rely on damage rolls if you're so far in the back it's necessary.

I mean, there is some actually, stuff like ice types being inmune to hail, also the fact that there's no way to weight the RNG on your favor witn OHKOs, they're always 30% chance
