They’re essentially just rogue DNA fragments, encoded to cause maliciously self replication, contained in protein shells to shield them from immune systems and allow them to get inside other cells.
They don’t have any metabolism, or even any real organelles. To my the best of my knowledge they don’t get much more complex than Bacteriophages in the structure of their protein shells.
The bacteriophage’s main notable components are the leg-like structures, which allow it to attach to the outside of cells oriented in the right direction, and the tower structure, which has a sort of spring mechanism which pushes an inner syringe structure down through the cell-wall and injects the viral DNA into the inside of the cell itself.
