I like doing random battles on Showdown specifically because going against set teams would just result in the same shit over and over and I don't want to engage in that. I actually want to use a variety of Pokemon competitively.

But holy fuck, is Dynamax a really obnoxious wild card in random. Almost every battle, it becomes a "Let me win" button, either for me or for the opponent.

It's a democracy in the ancient Greek sense.
If there is a problem with that at all is not who gets to vote (any half decent player can potentially qualify), but that there is hardly any community feedback involved in what gets to be voted, and obviously problematic Pokémon like Kartana or Grenigger have never been addressed.

No it's a balance thing. Dynamax is designed to be like a Queen in chess, it's a major high value piece. It's not meant to be trivialized by slapping it with a 255 base power attack to OHKO it.

Kartana is a Pokémon that would have never been broken without Z moves but was really restricting factoring in them. A lot of top players wanted it suspected near the end of USUM. I'm not saying that it would have surely been banned, but that's another problem that has recently afflicted Smogon, they only suspect stuff that they think is guaranteed to be banned.
