>>42047977 Anyone playing pre Gen VI games is welcome! Exchange friend codes, give each other tips, or just enjoy playing your favorite game with other like-minded people.
>Why /rpg/? Gen V wasn't that long ago. Firstly, the cutoff was more meant to reflect what seemed to be the point where Pokémon had a drastic change in direction rather than it being related to age. Additionally, with Gen V also being on the DS, online multiplayer is only available through custom servers. Playing games that aren't officially supported anymore is kind of the point of this general.
We had considered other names like 2D Pokemon General (/2dg/) and Classic Pokemon General (/cpg/), but >/cpg/ and we wanted to be inclusive of older games like Colosseum that fall into pre Gen VI territory but are not necessarily 2D. We put it to a vote back in thread #3 and the majority seemed to want /rpg/, so here we are.

was right to think things after the league would be much more difficult, lt. surge almost fucked me up and I lost to sabrina the first time because her espeon had skill swap – without huge power, marill's damage output was kinda pathetic. this little shit's reaching its power ceiling whereas opponent's mons aren't just yet but I still don't think anything will be as bad as the morty battle.

I hope prism counts, if not mega moemon fire red, and if not i also still have to finish emerald a million years later. Really enjoying prism so far, much variety at the start, but save your cash for pokeballs. Im just now, somehow, learning about natures abilities and stuff, how the hell do you remember all of this? I have no idea how i beat silver back when without knowing (including red) I have yet to really figure EVs, ok farm millions of psyduck for sp. Atk but how? You level before max gains unless im missing something, the process seams like some kind of vague mystical occult ritual to me, and thats after watching several videos about how it works. I did have one question i guess, does anyone limit themselves for gym battles how you are supposed to? (According to anime, your pokemon total = gym leader total, ignore orange league that was a weird season) this regardless of nuzlocke or other challenges.

>>42110468 okay cool, yeah I realized the physical/special split isn't there. it can be a good thing too, however.
I went for Torchic, since that's what I'm missing in HG in case I can import a breeded one later on.
Caught a Wingull and a Ralts to use and grinding them a bit before going for the 1st gym. Ralts doesn't have Synchronize but at least it's Modest nature. I'll probably drop the Wingull later on though.

Anonymous
>>42110781 >Also, are you blocked from using any of the later-gen evolutions of gen 1 pokemon, like politoed? Yeah until you get the national dex you're forced to only use original 151 Kantomons without cheating. Trying to evolve anything with a cross-gen evo will just cause it to fail (which gets REALLY annoying for a pokemon like Golbat, who'll try and fail to evolve every level)

Well 50 hours and I'm done with the game. First time playing Platinum and my first time actually finishing DPPt. Had a lot of great lore and battles. Definitely an improvement over RSE but I can't say I definitely liked it more than RSE.>Villains Team Galactic was not as cool as Team Magma/Aqua/Rocket and their motives were kinda dumb. Cyrus is a faggot and fuck their stupid haircuts. Mars is best commander though. >Regional Dex DPPt definitely had cooler pokemon than RSE and the new evolutions were fun. Actually had trouble trying to build my team because there were so many pokemon I wanted to use. In Emerald it was pretty easy.>World Building The TV system was pretty nifty and they really expanded on it from RSE. Plus the library and NPCs had a lot to say about the lore of Sinnoh and the Pokemon World>E4 I liked how some E4 actually show up in the story and aren't just enigmas until the end (besides the Champion). Drake is still cooler than all of the Sinnoh E4 combined.>Champion I loved Cynthia. She is sexy as fuck. She's kinda like a female version of Steven. Very cool and they both like to study niche shit. Cynthia had a more interesting team than Steven but Steven is just too cool. I know Wallace was the Emerald champion (which was fucking retarded) but whatever.>Rival Barry was head and shoulders above Wally. Wally was kinda a little faggot and didn't leave much of an impression. In fact, I always forget he's supposed to be your main rival. RSE has two rivals and neither really feel like rivals. Barry is kinda a wackier Gary. >Music Way better music in most cities and places. The Lake themes and Eterna Forest are classics. However RSE still has way better battle music. >Misc Bug/Flying is a shitty typing in this game and not having a Grass or Electric type sucked at times. Bringing back the night and day cycle was awesome but I really wish they kept Dive and let Defog fuck off. Fuck Honey. I had a good time and on to Soul Silver I guess. 8/10. /blog

HGSS using only Johto mons feels ridiculous. Totodile is my bro but if you don't pick Cyndaquil you literally can't use a fire type. Houndour and Slugma don't show up until Kanto for whatever reason. Anyway just beat Chuck, and funny enough the problems with the level curve actually show up because Johto isn't linear enough. After Goldenrod you can head to Olivine and beat everyone up to the Lighthouse, and then head to Mahogany and beat everyone up to Lake of Rage, so all their levels are the same late teens / early twenties. It's weird. I also feel like the plot has a poor pacing. You chase Team Rocket out of Slowpoke Well early in the game and then just kinda forget about them.
