Because GF would have remained better off even in sprites right?
Face it, the games would still have likely suffered even if we were still using sprites. Just look at Ruby and Sapphire, which at the time they were consider amongst the worst pokemon games to ever exist, and had a big hand in ending pokemania.

Software limitations were really the main reason why Ruby and Sapphire weren’t as good as the predecessors. I can’t see that excuse being used now for SWSH.

Wasn't pokemania pretty much over by the time RS came out? If anything it seemed to die after 9/11 along with the rest of 90's culture from what I remember. Cartoons went to shit, Action figures went to shit, even going outside was shit too because my parents were always suddenly worried about terrorism

Yes there was severe damage from the Johto anime and subsequently the GS ball plot getting dropped, alongside Crystal coming out which was seen as a rehash at the time. But ultimately R/S had a big hand in finishing it off, due to the transfer incompatibility, alongside cut features like a day and night cycle, and so forth.

I would not blame it on the games themselves. We grew up. I remember when that gen came out, it came at a time when so much of us hit the infamous "I'm not a stupid kid anymore phase and thus must hate EVERYTHING I enjoyed as a kid." phase. you played pokemon in school? You got picked on for it, not because RS sucked or anything but because it was for "baby kids". Pokemania slowed because the kids bit the absolute hardest by the fad bug all stopped caring about pokemon period, and the new young people getting into pokemon did not have the same "THIS NEW THING IS SO AWESOME" hype train to make it seem huge.

The games certainly weren't the only factor obviously, the anime and the rise of other animes like Yu-Gi-Oh! played a part in the end of pokemania. But to deny that the games didn't play a part in this is wrong.
