I'm trying my first ever Nuzlocke in Emerald and I've gotten wiped by Brawly's Makuhita both times. What gives? It probably did not help that I lacked a flying type both times.

My rules are:

>release faints
>set battle mode

Brawley is legitimately difficult, I lost 4 Pokemon to him with the same rules.

I'd either consider using easier rules, or find a strategy to beat him.

By that I mean, setup sweepers, Pokemon that resist fighting (the Nincada line is very good for this), or using a combination of sand attack/growl/confusion/phazing to wear down his team. The biggest issue with Brawley is Bulk Up and you need to make sure you stop those boosts before they get out of hand.

And of course, sometimes the game just says fuck it and hits you with Arm Thrust RNG

Hey, if the Nuzlocke Generator creator is still frequenting these threads, I have like half a dozen more bug reports to send in (from me and a few friends who frequently use it).

But it looks like the bug reporter is broken entirely? Either nothing is sending through, or it's incorrectly displaying as not sending. Or you're just not taking bug reports atm. Not entirely sure.

A slight level advantage isn't as cheap in Alola due to the totem fights ganging up on you, and how every major boss has high IVs and EV investment. A lot of it just depends on what you're running though.

Defeated Flannery. The MVP of the fight was Krakatoa, tanking the attacks while wrecking her team with Curse-boosted Dig and Rock Slide, though Allura contributed, too.
Shame that I've suffered some deaths that could've been avoided (Ryuji, sorry, I was an idiot), and I wished Treble would live long enough to become Exploud.
The level curve got slightly ahead of me, Flannery actually slightly overleveled me, so I'll have to grind for Norman.

Chuck plowed through the gym all by himself, but sadly, Slaking outsped and killed him with a single Play Rough. Mondo Gecko had to finish the job - barely succeeding due to Slaking wasting his turns with Truant - and Norman using Hyper Potion actually helped, allowing Mondo to recover his HP with Giga Drain and be able to survive another Body Slam which sent him into red territory.

Well that was easy. Norman was honestly kind of disappointing, Pilsbury just kind of arm thrusted through the whole team.

Im at the end of the game, and ive nuzlocked all other gens. Usually youll have 2 full boxes worth of pkmn (sometimes 3). Gen 8 youll have 1 full box and a bit in the 2nd if you do 1 per route, plus 1 wild area section. So youll have the normal amount with your method. But these games are short as hell, so that might be too much pokemon. Idk. Maybe stick with your method if you struggle with nuzlockes.
What i did was choose overworld or grass before going near the wild pkmn, and id see on the internet what the route has. For overworld, i googled rng and itll randomly choose 1-100.

Not using a starter this time around.

Also before you have a go at me for using a Dark Type against a Bug Type, literally EVERYTHING ELSE would 2-3 shot Nickit while taking 5-10% in return.

Bugs were probably the only thing I could reliably take out with good RNG. I did not get good RNG.

About to enter the Wild Area.
The battle against Hop almost ended in disaster, but his Rookidee leered like 4 turns in a row, letting me take it out.

I consider each Sub Area in the Wild Area to have it's own encounter, so I can really add to my numbers now. Fingers crossed we get some good random encounters.

Game crashed during that encounter, so I had to load my last autosave and then run around until I encountered another Joltik.
She's Lv14 instead of 15, but I managed to catch her after a struggle and a half. Dottler's screens made all the difference.

Will update the team once I'm done with all the Wild Area encounters I can do pre-Grass gym.

Finally at Motostoke. I can get one encounter here from the water. No deaths so far in this run, going much smoother now I've got past Hop and his Rookidee, and I have a much larger type pool now so things wont be as scary now I have answers for Peck.

Apparently her team starts at level 13.

Scorbunny knocks Corvi to just under half. Manage to spam potions in between setting up Hone Claws for Power Trip. Only get two before I start worrying. Power Trip, Potion, Power Trip knocks the rabbit out, but it gets two Growls off before KO'ing it.

Switch to Striga, who's Peck doesn't do NEARLY enough damage to Grookey. Get a couple hits in, get crit, potion. Realize I'm down to two potions. Switch to Nutbert who's holding an oran berry. No worries, right?

Crit Branch Poke from yellow to dead. I send out Striga hoping to outspeed Peck. Scratch, Scratch, Dead.

Send out Corvi. It Growls twice, giving me time to kill it. Sobble comes out. Back and forth ensues. Last Potion used. It Water Guns Corvi to 1 hp, but I manage to take it down.

Time to rebuild.

3rd Gym down in Clover and now that my Pokemon actually listen to me for a change the game has gotten significantly more manageable. Anonymouse has been a surprisingly effective team member and would probably have the MVP token had Mariguana not came in so clutch against the electric gym.

Apparently fate wants me to play a monograss run. In the unlikely event nobody else dies, i'll be stuck with four grass types on my team. I cant switch out a Pokemon with one in the PC unless it dies first.

I've beaten Elesa and am currently training for Clay; during that time I caught Foongus and Ferroseed. I also had the most terrifying experience with a shelmet as it ate a X Sp.Atk and curse boosted thrice. I couldn't watch as a super effective Struggle Bug denigrated a twelfth of Trubbish's HP... I had severely overreacted and ended it with a Sludge Bomb.

So I've been thinking of doing another FireRed Nuzlocke, but I wanted to mix things up. I want to maximize my use of rarer Pokemon that I typically wouldn't use in a standard Nuzlocke or in a normal run (eg. Clefairy), while still retaining the limited total roster due to the location-based capture limitations and permadeath aspect of the Nuzlocke.

So I got on the Sword nuzlocke train today. I just caught a Rolycoly in the mine (fucking Hasty nature, god damn). Here's what else happened:

Welp, was so close but in the end couldn't quite make it. The champ's starter -poetically, I guess- ended my run, and I can't be bothered to just grind some of the boxed mons, plus I wouldn't be able to make a full team anyway.

Only had Golem, Aerodactyl and Lapras left for the champ. Venusaur's speed being lowered by Hitmonlee snowballed into my Snorlax's death against Bruno, which was a big blow to my chances of beating him.

Going to focus on a white run that I've already started now. On my way to the fourth gym, but so many pokemon died already, even my starter to a vengeance from a wild Throh.

Clay was a lot easier than I was expecting. Bruce OHKO'd Krokorokorkok and 2HKO'd the drill with water pulse. Daria, temporary team member, razor leafed the Palpitoad.
Almost to Mistralon, meaning I'll have access to the move deleter. That'll make this run a lot easier.

Head out to route 4, accidentally melt the Meowth that charged me, and catch VVooloo the Wooloo. Head into Turffield and take on Milo. I lead with Joan and wreck Gossifleur. Eldegoss comes out, Max Strikes, and I switch to VVooloo, expecting Fluffy to do it's damn job. I get a decent hit in from Facade, but that fucking Max Overgrowth took her down. Send Joan back in, heal immediately, survive another overgrowth, and burn Eldegoss down. Grass Badge won.

Head to Route 5. Grab Roco Ananazz as the random encounter, and head to the daycare for Sprungen the Toxel. Feed Rick Thames a rare candy to get him to evolve, then box him, Joan, and Tuminous as I grind for Nessa. Fingers crossed for an arrowkuda in Hulbury.

Enjoyed my Ren Plat Apocalocke so much that I also started a Volt White one. It's going okay so far desu, disregarding Lenora slaughtering half my team (and Kricketune clutching with 5 consecutive Sings landed).

Probs gonna snag one of the fossils for my squad, since Horus died :( Due to the game giving me one of each, I'm also enforcing a "only can use one on the team at a time" clause to make it a bit fairer for me grabbing all of them.

I guess I was getting pretty sick of FRLG's 10+level grind after beating Giovanni, it's kind of annoying.

Just beat Valerie and the dreaded 12v12 Flare Executives fight in the pokeball factory..

Unfortunately, we lost both Vasantha the Corsola and Bryn the Sceptile to the bullshit. My rival abandoned me near the end so it came down to Mega Pinsir + an injured Hydreigon vs my squad. Corsola died to a Close Combat + a Dragon Pulse, and I had to sac Sceptile to heal Saffron so he could kill the Pinsir (and bring the fight down to a 1v1).

I loved them both. Using a Corsola with the buffs given was really fun, and Sceptile was doing good despite lack of mega stone. Hopefully the new recruits, Chloris and Kelpie, put in some work. Excited to try Critdra.

Nice shiny! Cool to see something rather rare and good-looking for a shiny, rather than a common rattata or pidgey.

For the record, if you're using the (unofficial btw) fairy patch, you're gonna have a much higher shiny rate of 1/257. Tbh it's not really really worthwhile anyways though. It doesn't actually add in any fairy moves like RenPlat, so you're just robbing the normal types that turn fairy of their stab.

Well, I'm at the doorstep of the Pokemon League. Everything went pretty well with a couple exceptions. King of Fly got crit in Vast Poni Canyon. And Big Pappi fell to Lusamine's Lilligant in the most agonizing fashion. He got confused and hit himself in confusion a couple times, and then paralyzed and never got to attack because of it. He had his last bit of life stolen by Leech Seed. You will be missed, brave butterfly. ;-;7

I'm thinking this may be the team I roll in to the league with. Sanbol and Madelia are the ones I'm a little iffy on. I'm going to do just a little more training and rearrage some EVs before I go in.

Usually the starters should be able to sweep Brawly's team, i did it before with Marhstomp, Combusken and Grovyle. I don't usually use them against him so i can keep them at lower levels and just use something like Dustox or anything that abuses Supersonic.

I'm amazed she got this far. But a crit Stone Edge did her in. And honestly, she was the one I had to sac. Sucks though, she was the MVP early on with Run Away for the Wild Area and a lot more fights than you'd expect.

Also Raihan's Duraludon is a pain in the fucking ass, yeah it has shit Special Defense but that's it's only bad stat, and it's weaknesses are to two almost entirely physical types. Plus it's a double battle and he's boosting his stats with Max Knuckle. It's a nightmare.

So, rebuilt my team. It's funny how it now looks almost entirely different to what I was using the whole game. I can't believe Hop's Inteleon killed three of my Pokemon. I should have sacced Mr Rime or Drednaw and then finished it off with Sirfetch'd's First Impression, but instead I switched in Sirfetch'd and died to a crit.

Just beat Clay. Calamity died while taking out the Steelix, unfortunately, but her sacrifice was not in vain. I ended up boxing Kricketune for Abomasnow, as having two bug types on my team wasn't doing any huge favors and I wanted something to get rid of Sand Stream. Got a little cocky with Blizzard spam, but managed to kill almost everything with him, with Air Balloon Emboar handling Excadrill.

Brought on Mantine to the team in hopes of adding a little more type diversity (and I'll also need a surfer soon enough anyways). Hopefully she puts in work despite the 3 moveslot limitation.

I've been playing this run for a while now. Just beat the last gym and about to board team Plasma's ship.
It's honestly been a very strange run. I skipped my encounter in route 2 until after the gym just so I could have a chance to catch a Venipede. Luckily it worked out but it could've been my undoing, as I had a near wipeout at Cheren's gym (I don't exactly remember how Azurill survived that). Then I had an incredibly stable midgame until dropping the ball after Skyla's gym. Azumarill, Scolipede and Excadrill are basically my core team, since they've been on board ever since they were caught.

Pokemon Blue Part 2. Rutenfest got killed by a Zubat in Mt. Moon. Not much of a loss, there.
I decided to change it from two evos per gym to one to make it harder. I used Radecki and June in the fight against Misty. Radecki took out Staryu easily, but I only managed to get one sand-attack off before Radecki got crit with a bubble beam.
June parafuse haxed the Starmie to death, and I got the badge.

This has made me really wonder if I'm a shit trainer. Pretty much everyone is dead, and many died grinding, which was very boring without the VS seeker for the most part.

Throh and Stoutland have been carrying me hard and have been the only ones to constistently remain alive in my core team. Will be fighting for the sixth badge soon, at least flying isn't supereffective against Joltik, but thank god I got a Zebstrika, too.

eh, the fun, imo, about nuzlocking is getting to use mons you wouldn't use in a normal playthrough.
try not being so strict on yourself or try a non-locke challenge like monotype, but don't come up with excuses for losing your mons on the spot, as that defeats the whole point of a nuzlocke, which imo is getting through the grief of losing a loved memeber of the team and striving to win the challenge for them and the other teammates.
at least that's how I see it

It is a randomizer, so I am using pokes I usually never use (dunsparce got me through a good chunk of early game). I don't wanna restart because I'm already at Wake, if I restart I'm probably gonna give up. I've had this happen many a time. I lost Rillaboom to fucking Hop's Inteleon at Wyndon this time round. I lost a Serperior in Victory Road in White 2. Emboar in White's Route 10. Primarina in both Sun and Ultra Moon to the very last trainer fight (Hau and the double respectively). It never gets easier.

Managed to defeat Totem Araquanid, but lost Baja Blast which is a major setback as he was supposed to be my Ultra Necrozma counter

Inintially I was going to use Vaporeon, but right now it's a lot more worth it to use Swanna, as he has access to both Surf and Fly and is already a high level and I don't want to do anymore grinding

Also I got kinda cocky and thought Emboar would outspeed Swanna at +1. She didn't, and survived a STAB 4x Brine on 2 fucking hp. Fortunately for her, the Mandibuzz had died earlier that turn and the Braviary had targeted Mantine. She lives to be awesome another day. And yet, I lost one of only two of my not-weak-to-rock mons...

Not sure what I'll grind up in replacement. We'll see ig.
