One of my favorite things about pokémon is how they envision the creatures as living things first and then figure out how to convert that to game mechanics
The honey trees are kino for that even if they aren't particularly fun to use

It makes sense in lore that pokemon would be lured by honey and people exploited that, i wish there were more mechanics that rely on nature, but in game it is boring and infurating to wait 6 hours for a wurmple

Gens 2 and 7 executed a better concept of this. Gen 2 has headbutt trees and gen 7 has mons that ambush you from tree tops. The encounter happens immediately rather than waiting 6 hours
