Nope. Piplup is one of the worst water starters. Sinnoh is the only region where I don't pick the water starter, aside from kalos because I haven't played XY

This. The only issue I had though is that besides HM Fly and Surf, every other HM took a slot until I reached Canalave City for the Move Deleter. But after that it's smooth sailing. People who screech about that haven't finished any Gen 4 game.

I'm not baiting, gastrodon is my favorite sinnoh pokemon and one of my favorite pokemon in general. Sinnoh has some other strong designs like toxicroak, drapion, carnivine, froslass, but gastrodon is best of them all.

That's your problem right there. Being forced to do anything isn't fun. People who go exploring irl do it because it's fun, because it's a kind of challenge that they enjoy, even if it can be hard at times. They do it because they want to, hiking up a steep mountainside, traversing rapids, etc. If you force them to go through an area that's less than convenient when other options are available, and they genuinely aren't enjoying it anymore, they don't do it at all to begin with. You shouldn't be forced to have fun, because fun should be inherent.
