Why else would you want to be a champion? Surely it's not for the challenge, since the champions aren't even usually the hardest battlers in the region.

Surely not for the title, since in most games after you beat the champion you're still not considered champion somehow.

I think in SwSh if you become the champion some NPCs will have a little extra line of dialogue acknowledging that you're the champion, I think that was also a feature in Gen 7.
