Has anyone been seriously fearing for the future of the games since SwSh were released? I'm starting to think we might have to wait another decade for good main series games.

The last few games being let downs made me branch out into other series that I've been enjoying more than any recent game. So not really concerned with pokemon games' backtracking anymore. I'm at a point where Pokemon's appeal to me is entirely in the anime now and I just don't care about future games.

which is sad because 3D Pokemon could have been much more satisfying in all this time. They've also been making great changes since XY for things like breeding and some semblance of an attempt at rebalancing things. I wouldn't be surprised if they just got tired of making cool regions to explore, maybe they are tired of making Pokemon. GO probably doesn't do much good for their pride when they see a dogshit mobile game earn much more than the games themselves.

I genuinely can’t give a shit about modern Pokemon games since they seem hell bent on dumbing them down and just overall giving them a lazy presentation. I doubt time will change anything since everyone that’s buying the games will do it out of spite while also vehemently defending them. I’ll enjoy it’s older games going forward and maybe any interesting spin-offs (shouldn’t hold my breath for anything other than mobileshit though)

everything after xy harmed my trust towards game freak, i bought two more 3ds games after that and i consider that a mistake
i completely gave up on them when they announced they're cutting pokemon and the decision was met with a standing ovation from most of the fanbase and the fastest sales yet

You can't expect fleshed out spin-offs to exist in the era of "3ds is dead and everything that isn't a proper console game is a niche 10 dollar eshop game".

Spin-offs were already selling mediocre on the NDS, and on the 3DS their numbers dipped further, even though production costs raised, and now on the Switch production costs would raise infinitely more than they were on the 3DS. Why would a company do shit like that, which would pay-for-itself best case scenario instead of making a profit? YOu'll notice most companies that used to do spin-offs flat out either became mobile devs or died on the switch to HD in the last decade.

In retrospect, XY started it, but I feel like they could've been decent if they were polished (they'd be run-of-the-mill standard Pokemon games if they weren't so fucking easy). They still had a lot of promising things about them. No, the decline seriously started with ORAS and that fucking interview where Masuda admitted they half-assed the games by not including the Battle Frontier because smartphones. And then you have Pokemon Go which pretty much cemented that notion into their DNA, and now we have SwSh which somehow make XY look competent. So yeah, it'll be a while before we get a game where they actually go all-out.

Well yes, they have made it clear that cross-game/gen is no longer a priority or even a consideration, and every new gen from now on will feature a subset of previous gen Pokemon.
