Raihan to me seems like an attempt by GF to diverge from the mono type shit and instead go for trainers that specialize in a particular field. Raihan seemed to be all about weather teams more than dragons. I hope we go for more of that. Mono gym leaders get ridiculously easy.

It's just another instance of GameFreak pussying out. If they wanted him to he a Weather Gym Leader then call him that, the fact that he's supposedly a Dragon specialist with only 2 Dragons is as stupid as shit like Flint having 2 Fire mons on his team.
What's the point of finally making a themed Gym leader rather than a type specialist but not even going all the way with it?

The reason people don't want monotype teams is because they are too easy to counter. Just because it's not monotype does not make it good. This fucking "sand team" is easier to counter than Gordie's rock team.

The idea is that Raihan was specifically putting more emphasis on his weather gameplan. It's not that his team was good, but that the idea of putting more focus on playstyle allows more freedom of which Pokemon can be used.

They could possibly have stuck Tyranitar in the opening slot with weaker moves if they were worried about that. It's a shame. When I think about it though I think GameFreak don't like giving pseudo-legends to gym leaders so that might be it.

When you first fight his gym he makes it pretty clear youre gonna be fighting his gym in double battles and that they each use weather so it was a cool miscellaneous gym. Then you fight him in the cup finals and he talks all about being a dragon master even though he uses a lot of non dragon picks.

There were many better ways to build his team without being mono.

I liked that idea, I would've added dracovish and heleolisk to his team but it makes the battle less straight forward, same with the 5th gym's gimmick to a small extent

It's not exactly clothes, but they blatantly designed Marnie, Rose, Oleana, Leon and the gym leaders first then built the gigantamax mons around those characters, which is why we have such a random assortment.
