How? Literally any satisfying task will give you this feeling. Achieve a goal you desire and you feel good, this is the essence of dopamine. How weak willed do you have to be that Pokemon videogames became "exploitative" to you?

dopamine loop game design refers specifically to the arbitrary numerical progression found in RPGs, it's a hamster wheel of artificial accomplishment rather than a task that's intrinsically satisfying. if you've been playing pokemon regularly since you were a kid you are on that hamster wheel. it's not exploitative "to me" it's exploitative "period". the original pokemon games came out before gaming as a whole was really good at monetizing this process in mmos and later microtransaction systems but it was nonetheless pioneering of such systems in a way other earlyish rpgs weren't (and gamefreak/tpc would later, of course, find great success in the monetization of such mechanics)

Probably the fact that they can't seem to stick to one gimmick; while the first two games were kind of vanilla, and RSE introducing I/EVs, Natures and Abilities, I kinda just want more varied 'mons that don't need some stupidly-busted gimmick (Aegislash, G-Darmanitan, ETC) or blatant disparity in type distribution, like not getting Ice types until around Gym 7. For fuck's sake, GF, stick with an idea for a generation or three.

Well, Pokemon in a way marked a downgrade in Gamefreak content. Before Pokemon, they were releasing decent games and then Red and Green came out as a buggy mess. There's a major drop in quality between Pulseman and the original Pokemon games, beyond the obvious 16bit versus 8bit. There's been wonderful Pokemon games, such as Crystal, Emerald, and Platinum, but recently they've been returning to their roots by both releasing unpolished games and trying to appeal to poke mania era people. Even when they try releasing other IPs, they're getting used to mediocrity. I love Pokemon but the bullshit that Gamefreak and TPCI get away with is crazy.

My gripes with each Gen (Original Games)
1 - Weird mechanics and general unpolish, somewhat forgivable due to "first game syndrome"
2 - Awful level curve, Kanto postgame is just filler aside from Blue and Red
3 - Water routes feel too drawn out, story is a bit too overbearing at times
4 - Overall speed and pacing, somewhat fixed in platinum but still an issue
5 - Story is a bit meh at times, atrocious evolution levels, postgame is almost non-existent in BW1
6 - A lot of it felt like "Hey look at this cool 3d stuff we can do now", beginning of awful 3d models, unfinished
7 - Too handholdy, SM were essentially unfinished, USUM sold at full price, too fukkin easy (A problem with 6 too but especially apparent here)
8 - Didn't buy it
