I said this before but I'll say it again. Hydreigon is so close to being good, there's just so many annoying little problems with it's design. The heads look great but only one of them has a mind of it's own, which is weird considering Zweilous has 2 brains. It's legs and tail look dumb and feel like whoever was making it gave up and just decided to give it weird uncomfortable looking legs. Same with it's wings too, they look like bent paper flapping around. What happens when this thing gets tired of flying and wants to lie down? Does it break it's fucking legs or something? It can't even walk, why? Hydreigon just feels like a huge missed opportunity, the thought of a hydra Pokemon is great but the execution just sucks.

"The two heads do not get along. Whichever head eats more than the other gets to be the leader."
It makes perfect sense, anon. One of them became the dominant leader, and thus, Hydreigon evolves to only have one brain. Alternatively: Given how often Zweilous heads' fight, one of them eventually lost.

iirc the idea behind Hydreigon's wings was that they'd look like extra heads in silhouette to give the impression that it actually was a Hydra, since they though if they actually DID make it a hydra it's look too cluttered.

I'll admit without that knowledge the wings only look "ok" but with that I feel like Hydreigon become a hell of a lot cooler.

It was first meant to be a tank. They thought it was a little to hard at first and then they change the idea to Yamata no Orochi. It was supposed to have Eight heads, but they thought it was too overdesign and hard to draw, so they brought it down to three. Hydregion and it's line was meant to be a Steel/Dragon type tank (some of the prototype design is still in used, see the red mark on it's stomach, that's suppose to be the tank wheels.) but was change to a Dark/Dragon type (The wings are meant to be the extra heads).

Too fat. Who decided to make the evil cave rage dragon obese? Legs are a mistake as well. Other than that, 60th percentile design that could easily be 80th+ with small adjustments.

I feel like they initially intended to make Hydreigon a dragon/ghost puppet creature(like Banette) but like the whole tank dragon concept, they abandoned it half way and the weird torn fabric for wings/legs thing are a remnant of that. It's one of those pokemon that had a really messy desgining process.

I didn't like it when I first saw it, but it's grown on me since then though almost entirely due to the fact that it's a kaijumon. It's still a poor design I think, especially the wings but maybe it was sort of hard to make ghidorah while not being too big or something

Good color scheme.
Utterly impractical design: doesn't really look as if it needs arms at all; the arms are extra heads for some reason; body too rotund to seem like a creature that has no real means of locomotion other than flight.
Designed by name-based flavor/theme rather than with any coherent design roadmap in mind: stage 1 is a quadruped; stage 2 is the exact same quadruped but with two heads; stage 3 is OP pic. If anything, Hydreigon should have been a terrestrial beast looking more like a hydra with legs than this bizarre, bulbous bat-thing.
