Good counter against everyday Ttar teams.
Actually fighting for some odd reason tends to be my favorite.
Its more balanced in the ccg though

Designs always sucked. Ironically, Boxing Coconut Crab and Grabling Octopus are some of the most valid designs for this type, along with Kicking Rooster Blaziken, and the mankeys+infernape.
Why did they add it in Gen1? They were obviously out of ideas since its inception as they resorted to weird humanoid designs.

Why aren't they just normal types? The Fighting type can be expressed purely by Base Stats(high ATK), moveset and Abilities(Iron Fist).
Why is double kick (a frequent quadraped attack) fighting? Why is mega punch normal?

Tbh it should have been the "MARTIAL ARTS" genre instead of fighting. It's not bad by concept, and it's way less specific than Dragon. And to be honest gen 1 in general did an absolutely terrible job with type distribution

I was thinking competitively they’ve been shit recently but yeah the designs always sucked. Bert and Ernie barely have a reason to exist.
Fighting is good for balance though, could you imagine pre gen 6 steel types, or normal types having no weaknesses?

Mega punch is normal type because it's an everyday strong punch, unlike fighting type punches which are more skillful and refined. I have no idea why Double Kick is fighting type other than giving some Pokemon's movesets type diversity for early game.

They were good before fairies showed up. Somehow dark and dragons manages to survive fairies, but fighting types weren't so lucky.
