To be fair it's not like Clef wasn't already good when Heatran was around. It was the first S rank in Gen 6 OU and it did well in Gen 7.

Except corviknight isn't completely walled by meagnezone, retard. It can actually KO it with a bulk up or two under its belt and rocks/spikes up.

Skarmory couldn't do shit to zone and it never dropped in usage.

Magnezone didnt need hidden power. It still kills ferrothorn and skarmory/corviknight just like it did before. Hidden power only sped up the process against ferro.

Corviknight fits on Bulky Offense, Balance, and Stall because it can run bulk up sets and defog sets can use U-turn.
Skarmory is much more passive and would only see use on hard stall.
That's the biggest difference between the two besides obviously spikes/stealthrock.
