Are you retarded? Bulbasaur blows the fuck out of the first two gyms and resists the third. While the third and fourth both wreck Squirtle. It is the most easy mode of the three starters.

And Venasaur gets Leech Seed, Sleep Powder, and Toxic. Back in gen 1 if you used Sleep Powder and Toxic together BOTH doubled in damage every turn making the entire fucking game a joke if you got Sleep Powder off.

bulba is the ez mode starter if you're playing normally but objectively he's right about squirtle, if you're speedrunning you want a single mon to carry you through the game or at least to a suitable replacement and squirtle's early matchups + better offensive coverage makes it the best candidate. go look at werster's runs in the gen 1 games/frlg if you don't believe me

In Fire Red any% you solo with blastoise and in a Round 2 speedrun you solo with blastoise for most of the run and then you get zapdos

Yeah Squirtle is only for early coverage before Mt. Moon, after that you mostly just use Nidoking for battling and use Squirtle as an HM user
