Archetype refers solely to a character's in the story, it has nothing to do with their personality (but those differ too).

Lillie plays a much bigger role than Shauna or Marnie do, to the point that it can be argued that Lillie is the real protagonist of Sun/Moon and you're her sidekick.

Alola had superior side characters too. We can bitch about cutscenes from gameplay standpoint, they are annoying when you just want to catch monsters, but the story, characters, and in some cases their growth, were top fucking notch.

SM had Gladion, Guzma, Hau, Lusamine, Hapu... All of them with developments, at least a little arc.

Plumeria and Guzma had their little arcs. Gladion and Hau had their story. Team Skull in general were just goofy hooligans with amazing city-base, what seemed like the worst team before release ended up one of the best teams ever created.
