The fossil abominations already brought in discussions on the Pokémon world's interpretations of creatures being based on the real world's understanding of creatures, and the real word did think that these things were dogs for a long time just because of how they looked/behaved.
I'll say Poochyena is somewhat arguable but there really isn't anything in Mightyena that is purely inspired from dogs. Pretty much every trait except for the mane that ties it to Brown Hyenas is something that hyenas and dogs share. That's the damnable reality of convergent evolution and cartoon monsters that aren't meant to be anatomically faithful.
