This series is missing something. I don't mind it being the first to not follow the plot of the games, but they haven't filled that gap with anything else. Every episode is "Ash and Go go to [region], do X, then return to Kanto".

I don't see this series being able to hold anyone's interest for 3 years.

If there are no old character cameos from past regions (and that includes old COTDs), it'll be the biggest blown opportunity since not just ending the Kalos League finals as a no contest by having Flare bomb the stadium as the final attacks are launched.

What was the average episode of any previous season about?

Ash walks in a forest-> meets character/problem of the day -> rinse and repeat until he gets to a gym

At least now the setup is more flexible for more types of episodes.

No they didn't. It was 90% Ash meeting random characters of the day. Most towns in the anime don't even actualy resemble their in-game versions.

Nothing about that episode needed it to be in Hoenn. It could have been in any region and it would have been exactly the same. Which is another big problem with this new series; the regions feel interchangeable.

The regions in the game all had their own identity and felt different from each other.

The regions in the new series all kind of blend together. It destroys any sense of immersion when they can be in Kanto, go to Hoenn just for one tournament, then be back in Kanto by the end of the episode.

No they fucking don't. Literally every game has similar biomes and repeting themes, and in the anime it's even worse. All seasons have a majority of episode containing Ash and co, walking around generic forests and hills meeting nobodies.
