Home ownership isn't an expectation, and due to changes made decades ago back when there was a housing csisis, land/homes aren't even an investiment, with their value depreciating over time.
Other countries could learn from them for how to fix their hosuing issues, but doing what Japajn did to fix it would never fly in a country like the US since people would lose their fucking minds if legislation passed which made houses not worth money as investiments
