What do you think about this film? For me It was a nice surprise, especially After the meh-tier that was i choose you, even if the execution have could be better.

For me it’s the only decent Pokémon movie out there, at least characters have something. The rest of the movies are crap.

Even the Darkrai one. Then ambientation in the Darkrai film is the only good thing about it.

Yeah, I really enjoyed the hell out of this one. It's now my favorite of the movies. I liked the way it focused on smaller stories and the side character's personal conflicts. Stories which then slowly merged well together in the conclusion as these individuals overcame their dilemmas. All of them coming together and using their talents to save their town from being destroyed by wildfire. It was great storytelling that, unlike in other pokemon movies, actually made me give a shit about this cast of characters for once.

It has a nice cast let down by a different yet lackluster plot. I don't think that Pokemon needed to be in this movie at all, story-wise that is. There are plenty of better anime movies that explore similar themes.

It's still the best original movie since the Lucario one, which is sad.

I really liked it, tbqh, I have a new waifu to "claim" the next time there is a claim thread going. The downside to having so many supporting character is the lack of development for them all, but I still managed to enjoy pretty much everyone. Uncle Liar and Granny are fucking B A S E D. I guess if they cut mayor and his daughter as well as lightning cat, they could have expanded more on TR and the supporting cast to get a bit more time in.

The one thing I noticed that struck me as odd...the only pokemon shown are gen 1 and gen 2. Outside of lightning cat, every pokemon is gen 1 or 2. I don't MIND, those ARE the best gens by a fucking landslide. But it was odd.

There was also a Lurantis, plus all the past film cameos during the closing narration. Otherwise, it was meant to be Johto-ish, even to the point of (imo) lazily recycling the score from (Jap) M02 wholesale.

Aaaah it kind of makes sense then. Also yeah, now I do remember the mantis pokemon. I can't complain though, it was pretty decent all things considered. I personally haven't liked any of the moves past the Latios/Latias one, this one reminded me of those first 5 or so movies.

Risa's unironically the best-written movie character probably in the whole franchise. Hell, in just 90 minutes, she had more character, motivation, etc., than characters who had 4 seasons dedicated to them.

The only problem with it was that the climax lasted a bit too long which makes it more of a chore to rewatch than it should be. The first 2/3rds are top notch and the last 3rd is still top notch the first time you watch it.

Snubbull being incinerated on screen and its ghost appearing to comfort Harriet hit me pretty fucking hard. Then again, the Luxray screen in M20 was also really uncomfortable to watch, as well as the rooftop scene during the Marshadow nightmare.

These two movies were pretty alright to me. First time in a very long time I actively wanted to own a physical copy of a Pokémon movie. I still put M21 on sometimes when I want to watch something comfy.

Technically M20 and M21 are in the same universe. Whether M23 will continue that, or will fall back into the main anime trend like M19 and before, still seems unclear.

Why exactly are the new movies reboots? I'm not complaining since they're enjoyable, but it seems weird that the previous 19 movies were all semi-canons of the anime up until now.

Reason 1:

It's hard to say, but it's worth noting the the Golurk wasn't shiny in its cameo in the 20th movie, which indicates that the version of the film where Ash uses Zekrom is the canon one, at least according the M20. On the other hand you could also argue that the non-shiny Golurk exists in the M20 universe, meaning that the shiny Golurk exists in the main anime universe and that the Ash gets Reshiram one is the canon one with the Ash gets Zekrom one being the first movie set in this AU with no-one realizing it.

Choose your own adventure, basically. Since both films are identical with minor differences, which one is "canon" and which one is "alt. canon" doesn't change Ash's journey, so it doesn't really matter.
