I love Dreepy and Drakloak but only somewhat like Dragapult. The excessive red ruins it and going inside its "ears" just seems gross. I know they're actually horns, but I can't help but seem them as ears.

"Just gets bigger" when it looks like a natural progression with enough difference that makes each of the line look unique, which is what you posted.
It's at its worst when it's shit like, and I'm using the worst possible example I can think of here, Poliwhirl -> Poliwrath which really does "Just gets bigger".

Most of them look better in their middle stages:

This. I have no problem with the "it gets bigger" stuff. What I hate are the pokemon that evolved into completely random things (exeggcute -> exeggutor, carvanha -> sharpedo).

It's because that's how a salamander typically develops, and it used to be a non-Ghost "regular" salamander before coming back from the dead (probably would have been Dragon/Water in its past life).

Drakloak actually doesn't exist. It's a puppet being piloted by a Dreepy until the Dreepy can evolve into Dragapult.
Dragapult's Dreepies are totally real. When it uses Dragon Darts, it launches the Dreepies, which embed themselves in the enemy. After the battle, the Dreepies will haunt it and start sucking out its soul juice until they have enough material to make a new Drakloak puppet and continue the cycle.
