>>42222530I've always felt like open segments would work better, especially with pokemon's level-scaling gameplay. So like there are ten segments of the region, each segment is unlocked after completing a certain objective (getting a new pokeride, getting a new badge, etc.), and each segment is fully explorable. So during the main story you're exploring parts of the region in succession and in the postgame you've fully unlocked it for free open-world exploration. Bonus points if you can unlock 2-3 segments in unison, creating some sort of minor branching path.
