Yeah, the lighting system in the 3DS games feel flat and almost celshaded. It relies the use of blending with the bright colors of the environments in Alola battles for example. Some pokemon in SwSh has also had their textures touched on as well like Rhyperior having a more deeper brown than the 3ds textures. Like Rei said though this is a start since before there wasn't a collaborative effort. It was just one guy. But there seems to be a group now with them also taking in willing artists who want to help.

Yeah, can't wait to play with my bros again. I don't think the models are the issue. The polygon count was unusually high for a 3DS game to begin with which is why the game lagged so hard in certain situations during battle. So porting it to the switch should be good. It's just the textures and lighting as well as reimplementing cries (since they don't have any).

Yeah, my understanding with the 3D models (i.e. XY/ORAS/SM/USUM) is that they were actually high fidelity models scaled down for the game, so it'd be easy to future proof, as that was the whole point.

Swsh 890 (or whatever it gets called in the end) plus difficulty mod is gonna be great. Sure, there's A LOT of flaws that won't fix like the small empty maps and rushed story, but it'll be complete enough to be worth the 8 hours or so to complete and however long camp takes to get old. If the later switch models finally get hacks by time this is done I might pick up a used copy so I can keep the portability.

I know it's a long shot, but I'm hoping we eventually reach the point of map hacks and new mechanics. I know some anons get autistic about "muh BotW" but adding a XB2 map, BotW style climbing and gliding, and pokemon mechanics is my dream game. It doesn't even need to be the player character doing the climbing, just combine it with LG's riding pokemon and have the trainer holding onto or riding the pokemon as they navigate through the land.

Some of that might require reverse-engineering the entire thing since there'd need to be code added to handle new features and interact with the existing engine. Map hacks though should totally be possible given enough time and people working on figuring out how they're implemented and how to manipulate the related data/assets.

Actually the lite shares an SOC with 3.0 which started popping up mid 2019, they silently upgraded to the more power efficient one once that became available but didn't change the model number.
