Well I liked them. There are a couple of duds, but I feel that there are far more hits than misses. They did a good job considering how difficult it must have been making the mons look more realistic while maintaining their charm.

They banned the two biggest things about being a trainer (owning a bunch of mons and battling with them) with no explanation as to why. I actually think its pretty retarded to have the only battle in the movie be an illegal one that compares Pokémon to actual dog fighting; that's sending very mixed messages. Nothing about the movie would be changed if Ryme City banned catching Pokémon within the city to perserve the balance of people and Pokémon while still allowing battles and the act of owing multiple mons
