Uses exsclusivly Ground-types with levitate or Magnet Rise.
No Pokemon has any ground moves and most moves are designed around stalling and trapping.
Every trainer has at least one Full Restore.

kind of a generic choice but a late game weather specialist
themed after a greenhouse, starts the battle under harsh sunlight but partway through changes it to rain via a sprinkler system
would carry mon that can learn solar beam, thunder and/or hurricane, along with weather-based skills
ace would be either the obvious castform, drampa, or maybe a new mon that can also carry all three weather moves

i understand the sentiment but there's going to be chapter bosses one way or another. even the colosseum games had figureheads to be fought, just because they're placed at the end of a dungeon doesn't change the limitations of what a pokemon boss can be

This. You also need strategy and team synergy to go with it to make them memorable challenges. Type alone might satisfy Easy Mode, but you need a lot more going on for higher difficulties.

I don't think we really have any idea how Gym Leaders are decided/distributed. Norman probably the only time we see a Gym changing leaders (not counting Koga passing it down to his daughter), and he was moved all the way from another region, to what was presumably already a Normal Gym.
The Viridian Gym changed type though, so there was probably an awkward transition period there.

I just kinda headcanoned it that the League has some kind of central body that certifies Gym Leaders and assigns them to towns that need a new Leader. Maybe they couldn't find a suitable leader and moved in someone nearby, maybe they just didn't give a shit and the top brass just assumed the little Gym trainers would fall in line without fuss. I think a little League politics could be interesting desu.

I was just thinking in terms of aesthetics really, I don't care as much about the challenge as I do cool character designs and settings.
Most Gym leaders are just blank cardboard cutouts who happen to wear the colour of their chosen type, it's really boring. And if they do have some kind of theme it's some generic crap like an Electric type leader who likes inventing, or a Rock/Steel/Ground leader who likes mining (of which we have like three now).
The only leaders I still remember liking are Crasher Wake, for being completely different to anything we've seen from a Water trainer so far, and Elesa (BW2) and Roxie for having interesting, modern Gyms.

Flannery mentions recently inheriting her position, and Juan says Wallace gave the position back to him for the time being after becoming Champion. Drayden and Iris seem to interchangeably serve as Gym Leaders in BW, as do the sommelier trio. Then, in B2W2, Cheren implies he's being made to use weak Pokémon instead of his usual team and as such isn't used to them. Bede and Marnie are also set to inherit their respective Gyms as well.

All of this seems to imply the Gyms are generally self-run, where it's up to the Gym Leader to decide on successors, but there's still a set of League guidelines they have to follow regardless.

Some ideas from my planned fangame:

>Dragon type.
1st gym. The bratty rival's uncle. A friendly museum curator who scolds the rival for their rudeness and explains some of the region's lore when the story calls for it.

>Fighting type.
2nd gym. A boxer who emulates a classic cool, calm badass- until you defeat him, and he breaks down and reveals he just wanted to be like the heroes from his favourite action movies. Sends you on a side-quest after to deliver some sweets to his granny (claims he's too busy training but its clearly because he's just afraid of crossing the woods).

>6th gym.
Water type. A cheerful yet ditzy woman popular for her beauty and skill. You meet her once earlier (between gyms 4-5), unknowingly, when she's visiting her boyfriend who is a wannabe-gym leader that fools you into challenging his "new gym" that turns out to be a fake. Her reveal as the 6th gym leader is somewhat played for a laugh.

Those are probably the more interesting leaders of the bunch so far. Some elite 4 ideas too:

>Elite 4 #1
Ground type. The boyfriend of the gym leader mentioned above. After the 4th gym you reach an outback town with a brand new gym and clear it as usual, only for the sore-loser leader to reveal that he can't hand you a badge because the gym isn't actually official- he just really wanted to be a gym leader and didn't plan for the event of actually losing. You meet him again in the city of his girlfriend's gym, where he states that although his loss upset him, it pushed him to try to get even better and that someday he'd beat you. For story-related reasons, one of the Elite 4 is fired, and when you reach the league you hear of a newly hired member. When you reach the chamber its revealed he proved himself worthy to the league and got offered the position.

>makes a quick speech about how food and drink bring people and pokemon together
>battle style is doubles, half use berry strategies and the other uses leftovers and passive recovery
