It IS too small though. Half the routes feel like then end too soon and the cities near Saffron are essentially connected to it which is fucking stupid
There's not much diversity outside basic shit like mountains, forests, and ocean, which are in every single game.
What region isn't geographically coherent?
I'll give you the nonlinearity, it's basically all Kanto has anyway.
Almost every gen has actual exploration after the 1st or 2nd gym, you just choose to ignore it because muh Kanto best.

It's now the 3rd worst region after Kalos and Galar.
