Make it so Eternatus was waking earlier than Rose had planned or that he didn't know what Eternatus was until it was right about to wake up.
Rose could still be partially at fault for shoving so many wishing pieces into it without knowing what would happen. It just happened to fall on the day of the champion match. And instead it's Leon who's impatient. He doesn't fully understand the danger and wants to hold off on dealing with the issue so he can finish his league match for his own pride.
Instead of villains it's just people doing what they think is right without considering the consequences. And instead of Rose fighting you for no reason, he and Leon could team up with the player to take down Eternatus. Both men realizing they were both at fault and atoning for their mistakes.
