I sure hope you guys don't actually think like this. Please just let it be some form of a coping mechanism you use to defend your purchase of a 3D era game, and not your genuine opinion.

Because I still have a lot of love for the actual Pokemon designs. If I didn't, there'd be literally no redeeming factor to Pokemon as a franchise.

Pokemon got a general universe lore who was enjoyable back in the days to discovers stories about legends like the old manor or Canalave library proves that the franchise can become great, it's just that it's in the hands of hacks and retards right now

Isn't "Pokemon was good before X game" YOU coping into something that isn't an actual thing?

A ton of flaws of current Pokemon are flaws from older games but somehow they count only for new games.
Late game trainer has 1 mon? USUM shit. RBYFRLGE good.
Sky Tower is easier to traverse for plot reasons? ORAS shit. Emerald good.
And so on.

Pokemon games were good FOR THE TIME THEY RELEASED for gen 1 and 2, debatable gen 3. But the rest of the industry kept improving and Pokemon didn't. By gen 4 the games were horribly outdated.

I'm referring to main games and not spinoffs, but anyhow, they were Silver, Black and X. As for the latter, even though I had a lot of fun with it and spent hours playing it, it doesn't blind me to the fact that it was insanely flawed and was pretty much the beginning of the end.

People who say this seem to think that Pokemon's simplicity makes it bad, despite the fact that a fair amount of the games still provide genuinely good experiences despite their relatively simplistic systems compared to other RPGs.
And even if it was the case that Pokemon was never good.This phrase is always used an excuse to try and defend SwSh, as if SwSh wasn't the biggest opportunity yet for GameFreak to improve the franchise in meaningful ways.

I agree entirely on your first two choices, they are genuinely good games. As for X , it's an interesting example.
Although the story, characters and postgame were terrible, I've come to realize hating on these aspects made me forget the whole week of pure fun i had playing it in the first time.
It really shines in the straightfoward gameplay, the Pokémon, the Megas (yes i like them a lot), the soundtrack and the beautiful region. Though, it's clear the first signs of our current state began there. Yet it's like a rotten seed that still germinated.
If only there was a third version i believe it would have been one of the besgames of the series, uncontested.
Do you like any of the spinoffs? PMD, Colosseum/GoD, Go/Masters?

No matter what gamefreak does they're never gonna make a great game because the Pokemon format itself is outdated. There's a reason why the rest of the monster collecting RPG genre is dead. Pokemon survives off nostalgia and brand value. The only way they can make a great Pokemon game is if they start abandoning a lot of its key design aspects. Like getting rid of turn based combat or maybe even getting rid of battling other trainers all together and instead only battling wild monsters. But they can't change Pokemon too much or the golden goose called nostalgia will die. It's the same reason why every 2d Mario game is exactly the same. When your game succeeds on nostalgia it can't evolve.
