Thing is it's easier to just add a bunch of text than it is to add a bunch of tutorial cutscenes, so its not even laziness.
I think kids just didn't use it ever, I remember as a kid I pretty much ignored it besides using the type matchup chart all the time. One day I sat down and read the whole thing and watched every Teachy TV (another thing that should come back) episode in one sitting and felt like my third eye had been opened. So much shit I didn't know about at the time in those things.

Most videos you see on the Internet are "First X minutes/hours of Game Y", so those first moments get special care to trick people who watch streams.

That's the reason the first route and city always has something "espectacular" in terms of visuals (but not too much, as it is the first town and shouldn't).

That may be true but Gym 1 is ~33%, you go through 4/10 Routes, can access half the wild area, go through 1/5 Dungeons and have 4/15 Rival Battles
