He also doesn't talk about his skills as a gym leader being bad, and instead that he's overall a failure of a person.
Another localization tidbit is that Marnie does speak with an accent in Japanese, but Piers doesn't. He speaks with keigo(polite speech)to presumably cover up the accent he does have, and his keigo tends to drop when he's speaking about himself.
Lastly he has an in-universe nickname that he calls himself during the match in Japanese 哀愁のネズ(Piers of Sorrow)that I just realized isn't in the English at all when I looked up the localization. So there's that too.
