You fought bad team and that's kinda it. There's no real story in gen 1

And you dont even go out of your way for it.
Theyre literally forcing you to fight them because they happen to be standing there. You first meet Rocket in Mt Moon.
You are not there to clear Mt Moon of rockets, just to get to the other side.
You dont have a reason to fight the rocket in the backyard, he just attacks you.
You dont care about Pokemon tower, you just want the Pokeflute. Fuji could be praying and rocket not involved witout changing the plot.
The one time you DO deliberately fight them, is Saffron because ... theyre blocking the gym.
Other than that, its because Giovanni is literally the gym leader.

Gen 1's plot is literally "follow this route, beat specific trainers because reasons, beat fat bear thing, go back and then take on league because why not?"

Very little means there is no balance.
It's mostly just gameplay.
I'm not saying this format is bad, I am saying there is no balance between gameplay and story because there is no story.

I think that anon is referring to "balance" in a way thay doesn't inherently mean equality so much as it means equity. Equality would mean your time spent playing would be 50% story and cutscenes, 50% gameplay and battles. Equity would be about finding the right ratio of both (e.g. 80% gameplay, 20% story, 90-10, 60-40, etc), maximizing enjoyment, thus achieving balance between the two elements. You can still disagree that gen 1 didn't strike that balance however if you think a better blend would have been more story, since the story elements in gen 1 are incredibly minimal.
