Why did they have to change location based evolutions? Something I liked about Eevee were the different evolution methods but now 5 eeveelutions are stone based. Lame

Because the evolution method sucked and put creative limits on the worldbuilding. These two are probably the least offensive as they're just generic ice and grass, but location-based evos that force GameFreak to add in a new area just for them each and every time fucking blows.

They will invariably put a power plant in the games if there is Electric Gym Leader so why drop magnetic based evos? I think the only exception was Gen 5, but that had a magnetic cave instead. The game that introduced magnetic location evolutions actually had both a magnetic cave and a electric based location as well

Its gimmick is already it's eeveelution branches. There's no reason to make shit more convoluted than it has to be just to show off some gimmick

You can't please everyone. The Eeveelutions having obtuse evolution methods has been a common complaint for a while. I'd say they were actually listening to fans, and it must have been annoying to find places to shoehorn those rocks in that only have an effect on one mon each

Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon have a perfect evolution method. Espeon and Umbreon on paper have a pretty neat evolution method until you take into consideration that you need high friendship to evolve them, the fuck? Is it just impossible to build a friendship with your Pokémon in Kanto? Just look at FRLG and the Let's Go games its retarded as fuck. Leafeon and Glaceon were doomed from the start though, what the fuck Moss Rock and Ice Rock? I would've understood leveling up your Eevee in a forested area or an area with heavy snowfall to truly represent an environmental evolution but the rocks are just weird. I mean what can a Moss Rock do that the Leaf Stone can't and to an extent the Ice Rock versus the Ice Stone which wasn't a thing until generation 7. Sylveon is just the worse of all? Affection? No man. It could've just simply been friendship plus a Fairy-type move.

They changed it for SWSH because constantly programming an area to include a rock or magnetic field was too cumbersome. They would probably be back though if the Gen 4 remakes do occur.

Objectively wrong. Stones are unique in that they force you to choose between evolving straight away to get a stronger Pokemon, or waiting to get better moves.

I prefer this way, only because it allow you to get Glaceon and Leafeon. Getting Leafeon in Black 2 early was impossible so I have to trade it into Black and evolve there. I also remember many anons here used to complain that they didn't change evolution method in Gen 7 when Ice Stone was introduced.

Fine, think of Glaceon and Leafeon in Galar as different ones that have adapted to evolve via stones, unlike other ones in different regions which still need icy/moss rocks to evolve. Old Glaceon and Leafeon still exist outside of Galar.

Most Pokemon that evolve through level-up learn the same level-up moves as their pre-evos. Stone evos literally can't learn anything through level-up after evolving.
