Yes, I remember when a Grass Gem let me use Solarbeam without any chargeup for a Grass nuke coverage move, or how Dragon Gems let me fire off a Draco Meteor/Outrage without any drawback afterward, or how Gems turned Splash into a usable move, etc.

Got rid of them when they realized they could make them into their own gimmick for a gen (which was apparently before XY came out). You only have access to Normal Gem in XY, and it was missing entirely in Sun and Moon (to not distract from the Normal Z Stone). It's back in Gen 8 thankfully, Fake Out + Unburden wasn't usable without it.
