Let's try and compile the ultimate ez-mode team for every Gen, starting with Crystal. Of course, the easiest way to play it by solo'ing with the starter, so we won't consider that. It must be a full team with at least 1 flier and 1 surfer or a 5-member team where 1 is an HM slave.

Basically the team that makes the game the easiest, with the least amount of grinding and investing possible. It must avoid low encounter Pokémon as much as possible, or Pokémon that are extremely situational and/or hard to catch, like Headbutt/Honey/Static Pokémon.

My proposal:
>Totodile (strongest starter, optionally replace with Suicune if you used Master Ball on it)
>Geodude caught on route near New Bark Town (if you can evolve for Golem, the better)
>KENYA
>Catch/Buy Abra, trade for MUSCLE (if you can evolve for Machamp, the better)
>Catch/Buy Abra (if you can evolve for Alakazam, the better, teach elemental punches)
>No idea for 6th
