Does the fact it takes the place of the 3rd/4th game forgive it a little? On paper, I'd rather just have an expansion instead of the same game with 3 added towns and legendary Pokemon.

No. Buying the initial pair was always stupid. Waiting for the eventual third version rewarded the patient player.

It's better than making a third version, since all they ever were is "What the original should've had", the Switch having proper DLC let's them get rid of that

The issue is that it was released for $60 as an unfinished game and now they're selling the rest of it, which isn't even all the Pokémon still, for another $30

I like not having to pay for the game again and get even more “bonus” content than USUM gave, even B2W2 might not offer more than this DLC is offering on top of the base game. Obviously if I never purchased the third version or sequels this would still mildly piss me off.

Like I’ve been saying on other threads and in my youtube script for the video I’m working on pokemon is adapting to the new “games as a service” style of franchise, where you provide more care and attention to less iterations. By releasing Galar for the next 4 years game freak can make money on smaller transactions and build SS up as the ultimate experience, while players can stay on one game and receive free compatibility updates with optional extra story paid content. It’s like overwatch. Overwatch has been out for like 3/4 years and even the sequel in the works is confirmed to be backwards compatible online with the “first” game for multiplayer while the “sequel” focuses on cooperative and single player elements.

Well you could buy those without buying the first versions. For the DLC you need the base game, it's not an either/or decision.

The only reason I'm remotely excited for these new areas is because it's a Wildlands expansion. I think whatever mainline game comes next should just be all this and no fixed camera routes.

I was actually wondering about this. Are they gonna sell a complete edition later down the line or what? I mean it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't as Botw, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade all have their own expansions. The only Nintendo game this far that's gotten a complete edition which includes all the DLC content is MK8D.

I'm extremely doubtful, but I'm fine with waiting. I'm not missing anything, and I don't care. The only thing I'm willing to do is when Bank support is threatened to be dropped, I'll eat the annual $20+ fee then. But i don't need the games, not if GTS is gonna exist on Home also.

I do not expect it for Pokemon. Nintendo as a whole has shifted into "deep discount after 6+ years" mentality, and they have never uniformally discounted Pokemon since the GBA era.

Fuck that noise. Third versions were a shit idea to begin with, but at least you had a chance to wait for the complete edition. Now you need to she'll put $90 for the full game.

If the expansion was like $5 it'd be justifiable desu.
