Been out of the loop on the TCG but I remember most Fairy decks being fringe tiers save for like Gardevoir

Probably just for simplicity's sake, fairy type in the TCG is good but not THAT good. With the other reshufflings, every energy encompasses 1-2 types (except for fighting, I agree that rock should have maybe moved to steel energy). And fairy type is the newest addition (and a weird one from a design standpoint, it was basically only to market the games) so it got the chop. Dragon energy is pretty new too but at least it has/had the gimmick of being weak to itself.

Dang I'm retarded and didn't realize with the fairy type shift, now psychic has 3 types as well. It's not that big of a deal to have fighting be as it is then, again it's just to keep things more simple I guess and fairy was pretty pointless (and the cards were obnoxiously pink)

If they moved Rock to Metal and Dragon to Fire we'd have an almost perfect balance of 2 game types per TCG type. Electric really has no logical pairing and Ghost and Fairy are rare enough that putting them with Psychic doesn't mess up the balance.

I’d say Dragon’s gimmick of requiring different types of basic Energy is more of a unique feature than being weak to itself. In that way, it’s the anti-Colorless, whereas there’s always been types that are weak to themselves.

Fairy-type is the third most rare type in the games - it's starting really hard to justify printing support items, supporters and energy for mons that have so little representatives, that every single time the tcg needed to fall back and print a gx for sealed product, they would default to Gardevoir as the representative.

Ghost and Ice don't justify a type by themselves, seeing as they are extremely rare too - so fairy doesn't justify being its own type either. What I find funny about this is that Mime Jr will NEVER have a fairy-type card.

The thing is using multiple energy types doesn't warrant being its own type. Last year we had the bird trio and a Japan-only Regigigas promo that used multiple energy types. IIRC there were also various cards during the first 4 gens that used multiple energy types.

In fact I actually think it would be cool if they did away with the Dragon but still kept the multi energy gimmick exclusive to them. e.g. Ultra Necrozma could be a Psychic type that uses Psychic and Metal energy.

I liked what they did with Double Dragon Energy. If they could come up with unique advantages to having the Dragon typing to go along with its "mythic" status like special DDE energy or other powerful trainers that only work on dragons like Lance prism star, I don't think there's really a problem with having it. It works as kind of a "super colorless" type.

Zacian V is looking to be the deck to beat once SWSH releases, it has a built-in Max Elixir effect, that, even if it ends your turn, gives you any cards you didn't attach as energies - and there's also a Metal Patch releasing in the same set. Fire is also getting much worse with the release of Rain Dance in the form of Frosmoth.

Fire isn't even that good in expanded - they already have Blacksmith, VS Seeker and Battle Compressor, Kiawe and some good but not busted fire mons. Turbo Dark and GardeSylveon cracks it like a nut and Mew3 relies on Dimensional Valley. Welder is only busted in standard, and with the release of Frosmoth, Fire decks go into the trash bin - being bulky and hitting hard in one turn was the only benefit said decks had in this format. Water has more versatile and better attackers

Judging by the decks in that post steel is still in the shitbin in expanded, and will continue to be in standard as long as welder is in format.

The only thing that salvages metal atm is ADP because it is retardely broken card on its own, but buffs water as well to a ridiculous amount.

Fire types still shit on Zacian V, and will continue to as long as Welder is a card in standard because the only way to counteract it is to tech against fire based which very few will do because it makes the deck less consistent versus every other deck

They kinda started the multi type to attack in Gen 3. Dragons were Colorless but used multi types to attack.

Also Fighting types that are actually Rock or Ground are still weak to Grass. In fact all 3 Fighting types remain exactly the same. They really should've put Rock with Metal to spice things up and help differentiate Ground and Rock. As it is, someone who only plays the TCG probably has no idea that Golurk and Runerigus are supposed to be Ground.
