i had an acekard on my DS and a hacked 3DS but I didn't bother with PMD at all.

I'm not, because it'll have the Fairy type in it. If we could get updated PMD without Fairy, I'd be all for it, but I think I'll be sticking with the OG Blue or Explorers of Sky.

I still have a DS Phat for maximum nostalgia.

Poison and steel still aren't viable offensively. Steel is alright if you don't have coverage for Rock and Fairy, but the moves are still weak and rare. Poison is still THE worst offensive type in the game, tied with Dragon and Normal (now that Return is gone).

The save file screen shows a few more icons, which implies a longer storyline.
There's also pokémon available from post gen 3 that can be recruited, as well as mega evolution

That's actually a good point. If they add fairy type, that gives more reason to play this compared to the originals to offer a different experience. It makes Skitty more viable since it learns some Fairy moves on level up, which gives it more of a niche.
