Honestly, since they scrapped third version, I believe that gave up completely and just want close this generation, so we will get more fossil pokemon as a "content"

But marketing decisions or not, I think that they planned to release third versions, but after bad reviews they decided to add all competitive shit and lot of other stuff to tone down the complain [they wanted "balance" and now they adding back garchomp, legendaries and so on]

Since we saw Aurorus in Crown Tundra, that must mean a scientist and/or machine that can restore fossils the traditional way will be present, so I do think we'll see the Galarian fossilmons' true half-Rock incarnations.

This is honestly how new Pokemon should be handled from now on. You can introduce new Pokémon to be tied with expansions, mobile games, announcements now that you can just patch them into the game.
