Mistaking it for the Yokai is like saying Wolf in English and expecting it to mean the same thing as Skinwalker in Navajo. There is a seperation, the language and the mythology, they are not as intrinsically linked as you think it only seems that way because as the language evolved it weaved its way into the legend to make it comprehensible
