So from what I've gathered: it seems like people in general would've been fine with Pokemon moving to DLC instead of "third versions" if the base content of Sword and Shield had been substantial. The problem is that SnS not only cut out a significant portion of the Pokedex, but also doesn't have much of its own content to stand on its own terms, meaning the DLC feels more like it's trying to complete the base game instead of adding on to it.

Unfortunately, this means that much of the debate is entirely focused on the perspective on whether or not you thought SnS were good games in the first place. "It's bad and you're being scammed" is going to fall on deaf ears to someone who LIKED the games and is excited for more. "They're adding lots of cool stuff" is just going to get people who felt SnS were lacking angry.

And then there's the debate about the transfer software (Bank and Home) also being annual subscription services, putting more cost on the end user for something people generally feel should be free.
